I'm an avid reader and find it to be one of my most frequent escapes from that ever lurking drudgery. So, naturally, I'm always looking for something new. What are some of your favorite books--and their authors? (no more than 5 please)

I am an avid reader also and I'm always looking for a good book, too. Have you heard of goodreads.com? It's an online network of readers where you can list your books and reviews and see what your friends have read. If anyone is on goodreads look me up. Just search for janaleefish. But please let me know that you're from Mommy Diaries. I do not approve friend requests from unknown profiles.
Here's my list of the last 5 books I've read:
The Giver - Lois Lowry
Year of Wonders - Geraldine Brooks
Stargirl - Jerry Spinelli
The Wednesday Letters - Jason F. Wright
The Host - Stephenie Meyer
The only one I would give a moral warning about is Year of Wonders. It's about a village that quarantines themselves when they are hit with the Plaque. There are a few sex references that made me uncomfortable. But still a very interesting and mind-opening book.
I love goodreads. I'll have to look you up Janalee.
So my favorite books are going to sound dorky next to both of yours. I love the young adult section of the bookstore! :) And some of these I'm sure you've already heard of and read.

5. Princess Academy (Shannon Hale)
The Book Theif is another really good one, by Markus Zusak
Hardly dorky. I would have put Harry Potter on there if I could have, but everyone knows that series so recommending it to others is kind of a moot point.
I'm going to have to write some of these down.
Some I've read, of course, like 'The Giver' and anything Stephenie Meyer.

I'm also a big fan of goodreads! Some books I've read lately that I enjoyed were
1)The Alchemist by Coelho
2)The Woman in White by Collins and
3)Some of Agatha Christie's mysteries
I try not to stick to one genre and I'm always pleasantly surprised by the different things I learn/enjoy from each book. A lot of my friends loved reading The Thirteenth Tale by Setterfield and while I enjoyed it it wasn't my favorite.
Definitely check out goodreads...you won't be sorry.

The Alchemist is pretty good. I loaned my copy to my little sister and it's become her new bible (and I haven't gotten the book back).
