A Time For Giving

We are usually out of town visiting family long before the plates of Christmas goodies from neighbors and friends come rolling in. This year, however, we are staying put here in Florida (really, who wants to leave 74 degree weather?!) We've thought about giving loaves of poppy seed bread, cookies, or other assortment of treats to those neighbors, home/visiting teachers, and friends whom we appreciate...but we are still undecided.

What do you give to friends and neighbors for Christmas?

I give whatever baking I have done. This year I gave melt-away cookies. I will also be giving fudge and gingerbread cookies.

We like to give a special family recipe of Molasses Cookies. Scott makes them and they are delish. I'm happy to have that as our "tradition" since he does all the work! :)

My favorite year though, we gave an orange, a couple cinnamon sticks, and some cloves in a little baggie. On our note we wrote a little message and then the instructions to slice the orange, add the spices and put it in a small pot and simmer on your stove. It makes your house smell WONDERFUL and Christmas'y. That was my favorite. I'm sure I'll repeat that many times in the years to come.

This year I am making cookies and chocolate dipped pretzels. I hope they all like it. This is a great post too.

This year I am making mint chocolate brownies (kinda like BYU's), peppermint bark, these cuties from Bakerella as seen here, http://bakerella.blogspot.com/2007/12/red-velvet-cake-balls.html, and reindeer chow...I am starting tonight...it will be a long night! :)

I finally got internet back and there have been several posts here. yay!
So... usually I plan for something really fun to take around to friends but then run out of time and just end up doing a couple different easy treats on a plate. This year has been way to crazy and people are starting to leave already so I don't think we'll do treats. But next year I want to do my mom's Jalapeno Jelly with a sleeve of Ritz crackers and cream cheese! It sounds gross (i hate jalapenos) but it's SOOOO good and very addicting! And really not that hard to make! YUM! The recipe is under Sides and Snacks.
